Differences Between Vinegars!

Let’s talk about Vinegar!
I’ve spoken before about how Vinegar can be “unhealthy”, but my reference being towards “white distilled” and to wine vinegars, in which the destructive nature comes from ACETIC ACID, which both distilled and wine vinegars have.

PURE ACV (apple cider vinegar), on the other hand, made from whole apples and NOT diluted, contains the constructive MALIC ACID, which benefits the digestive system, and can be constructive in softening kidney/gall stones.

What Happens To The Food You Eat?

intestinesThe easiest analogy I can put forth would be comparing one’s body to that of a chemical engine, it accepts what one eats as fuel.  Sometimes it decides some of the fuel is unacceptable by discarding it by throwing it back up, or for some shooting it through quickly and sending it out the south pole region.  Sometimes, it will decide to store it in the fat cells to cushion the body against leaner times; and some it will gratefully use to fire its countless tiny cell furnaces after it applies some complex biochemical treatment.

If the energy output in the food one recently fed their engine is nutritionally deficient, the body will insist you send more through hunger triggers and one has the urge to raid the kitchen again. Which is why you can devour an entire bag of potato chips and still feel hungry, nutritionally they were empty!

If any of you reading have ever watched one of those survival shows, like “Naked and Afraid”, the people on the show sometimes  will go for the full 21 days with nothing more than water, and they always tell at the end of the show how much weight each one lost.  During a survival mode such as that; the body will use up the fat deposits first to feed the engine, then it will turn to breaking down muscle tissue, (eating itself).  When folks start getting sick and notice their body is breaking down is when the their engine has been being fed the wrong kind of fuel too many times, leaving the body to have to compensate with that which the body has stored.

Folks, our digestive system is basically a chemical refinery that is able to manufacture its own fuels and is capable of delivering energy from those raw materials: the proteins, fats, carbohydrates (that are broken down into starches and sugars), vitamins and minerals.  This whole process of digestion takes place the minute we send food into our mouth and down the esophagus into the stomach.

When we chew our food and it’s mixed with our saliva digestion begins.  Our digestive system is like that of a conveyor belt, there are various stations where other chemicals are contributed to convert the food/fuel so our engines can use it by breaking down, diluting and dissolving as well as adding some chemicals and even removing others.

When the food mixes with our saliva which is the first set of digestive enzymes the food comes into contact with, these enzymes are special protein molecules that act as “catalysts” the definition of catalysts: a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change. So the job of these catalysts /Enzymes is to assist the body/engine in metabolizing, which is the what the body does to convert this fuel into energy.  The enzymes our body produces are called the spark plugs of life, we cannot process a single morsel of any food without them. Yet, when we are eating foods that are loaded with chemical preservatives or “enzyme inhibitors”, the very structure  of our enzymes that the body produces can be altered, which is why we see so many folks struggling with digestive issues.

The Stomach secretions, the enzymes from the pancreas, the liver and the glands lining the small intestines all act on the passing food.  As the food has been touched by the actions of these enzymes and ferments then the other catalytic agents of reduction in the mouth and stomach is now spread out, as it were, upon a huge carpet.  This carpet area is the lining of our small intestines, which is about 26 feet long and is covered with millions of villi, which are like little fingers that are constantly moving back and forth, they are sticking out from the lining of the small intestine.

So when we eat something that has an irritating effect, the bowel is going to either try to get rid of it quickly which we experience as diarrhea, or it puts a spastic clamp on the intestines to keep the irritating substances from moving which we experience as constipation.

This rich lining of delicate sensitive cells is our body’s first defense level, it fights the good fight against the absorption of unnatural and detrimental food elements.  Yet repeated absorption of these elements produces over time inflammation and even destruction of our delicate lining.  That is when the blood in these villi become so overcharged with toxic elements that elements of it is allowed to enter into the blood stream.

So, as these digested food particles are spread over our intestinal carpet to be absorbed, two important issues present themselves:  what is the quality of the food and the quantity?

If we overeat, that makes it difficult to digest, and too much is saved/absorbed.  The villi have no regulating ability to indicate how much to absorb.  This contributes to folks being overweight or they feel sick.

Typically when we sit down for a meal, we feast on a variety of foods.  Understanding that the way our body has to break down different elements in our foods, realizing that when we throw to many different foods in the same meal, can result in incomplete digestion.  How does that FEEL:

*bloating

*feeling full for hours

*sleepy after eating

When clients come to me with digestive issues, even food sensitivities, what ends up happening is we have to simplify their diet to reduce the work load on their digestive system.

Cells called small lymphocytes, carry food needed for growth and reproduction of our body’s cells.  This food is protein in nature, but before it can be used by the body’s cells, an iodine value must be added to it by the thyroid gland. The body is so incredibly amazing, the villi that line the small intestine have two sets of vessels, they have blood vessels and lymph vessels.  These lymph vessels are what transport lymphocytes and other white blood cells.  So during digestion it requires a large amount of lymphocytes, these enter the lymph vessels, and so the body will have enough available, God placed the largest organ for manufacture of these lymphocytes close to the small intestine.  That would be the spleen, whose function is to send armies of lymphocytes to the villi after we eat.

We hear about the importance of “amino acids”, and how they are building blocks in our body.  Well, as the lymphocytes are being pushed through these lymph channels of our villi, they absorb amino acids, which are the digested form of proteins.  They then get circulated toward a large duct, that would be the thoracic duct, which moves them to the subclavian vein into which the thoracic duct empties, just above the point where the secretion that comes from the thyroid gland is released into the same vein.  Now, TELL me this isn’t SUPER COOL……this all takes place and we don’t see it, we don’t feel it, but we can’t live without these functions!

It’s at this point that the lymphocytes are exposed to the iodine from the thyroid which “iodizes” their amino acids, which is what we need for cell growth and reproduction.  These lymphocytes then circulate in the blood vessels or lymph vessels, or sometimes cut right through the tissues to a needed location.  So after this cycle occurs these lymphocytes return to the spleen, where they either get disintegrated or are sent on again to the villi to cycle again.

This concept of digestion was introduced and published in the December, 1928, Journal of Laboratory and Clinical Medicine.

I impress on my clients who are parents, WHAT you feed your children is important! During adolescent years lymphocytes are needed in larger than normal amounts, the stages of growth and repair that takes place during childhood and until the end of adolescence is what sets the very foundation of health as our kiddo’s enter adulthood. During this period God has supplied an extra lymphocyte-manufacturing center which would be the thymus gland, which begins to shrink after adolescence.  The thymus is by the thyroid so that iodine is readily available.  So realize that the foundation of our children’s health future should be supplied with the very best building material we can supply.  Fast food, like chicken nuggets, and French fries and soda, and boat loads of refined sugary foods; isn’t going to make that happen.

CARBOHYDRATES:

When we eat carbs and complex sugars our digestive system reduces those to simple glucose, which the blood vessels of the villi absorb and that glucose gets burned directly in our muscles.  The body receives its muscular energy and heat from this.  Fats are also combustible, but they usually burn better with the carbohydrate flame.  (I’ll touch more on this on a later post)

EMOTIONS:

Gut and psychology go together.  How one “feels” is really dependent on how your food processor (digestion system) is processing.   If we pay attention and “watch” people, take a holiday meal, some families laugh at the fact that when their whole family gets together, many times someone causes an uproar.  If you take notice most of that tends to happen AFTER the meal has been eaten.   That’s when emotions run high.  Watch the kiddo’s at a holiday function, after the sweets are served up, the kids get hyper, weepy, or can toss some fits.  What we eat makes us who we are, and our emotions are predicated on what takes place in the gut.  I’ll dig deeper on that in a different post.

How Do You Start Your Day?

coffee How many of you wouldn’t even dream of starting your day without a big ole cup of hot Java?  How many of you are relying on more than just coffee to get you through your day, like Red Bulls, or other commercial Energy drinks that are loaded with caffeine and other unmentionables?

No doubt you have learned to “enjoy” the coffee, who doesn’t LOVE the smell of it brewing, I have to admit I DO, and yes I do drink a nice mug of hot coffee in the morning, but I also love a hot mug of herbal tea, or even Dandiblend which is a wonderful  herbal coffee substitute.

When we are young guns our systems can tolerate and eliminate the toxic effects of coffee through our urine.  But as we get a tad more “seasoned”, and the kidneys gradually get some wear and tear on them, those acids begin to pile up in your system drop by drop.  How can you tell, well a couple tell tale signs would be “fatigue”, “headaches” that hit mid day or you may even wake up with it, “depressed” because you feel like your get up and go, got up and went.  So the rollercoaster effect begins, and you have to keep sending artificial stimulation to keep rolling through your day.  For the moment you feel better, maybe even feel like you could run a marathon, but that’s because you are kicking your endocrine glands, usually the “adrenals” to over produce.  That “feel-good” sensation is really a mask hiding the truth folks.  You can only over stimulate the endocrine glands for so long before they decide to go on strike.

There is a medical diagnosis referred to as “toxemia”, which is an overload of impurities that have build up in the system including the blood and it makes a person feel less than wonderful to say the least.  It can be very dangerous, even deadly.  When the body has headed in this direction  the body has to break out the emergency manual and figure out the fastest way to get these impurities out!  So typically the body sets up road blocks and redirects these, and calls on the endocrine glands to jump to the rescue.

Here’s the way it works:  We toss some food down the hatch, most folks are not reaching for the healthy “lets do a body good” choices.   If we walk back in history to our ancient ancestors their primitive diet looks nothing whatsoever like ours does today, yet Man’s digestive system back then, and our digestive system today is still the same, (so much for evolution.) So when we are choking down chili cheese hot dogs, fried meats, boat loads of fried French fries, donuts, cookies, pop, alcohol etc. and very little in the way of water, fresh fruits and veggies, toxins build up and that affects our liver.  Now whether the liver breaks down early or later in life depends upon how good of an organ it was at birth.  But trust me break down it will,(many folks have a back up going on with calcified bile called gall stones, and many are losing that major “helper” for the liver) and when it fails to filter and neutralize these toxins from our blood, a back up line of defense has to step up to the task.   That would be the endocrine glands.  The key ones that come into play : Pituitary (at base of the brain), the thyroid (located in the front of our neck), and the adrenals (which are the hats on top of both our kidneys.)

These gland secrete hormones, meaning there is no duct for anything to flow from, these glands are pushed into hyper-drive, forced to manufacture more of their secretion.  Keep in mind that the amount of a gland’s secretion is in exact ratio to the volume of blood entering it, the gland is then enlarged by this extra blood supply, which can bring some physical consequences.

The pituitary being located at the base of the brain doesn’t have a whole bunch of extra room to swell, it’s encased in a bony cup at the base of the skull.  This pressure can cause symptoms that can really get one’s attention: Migraines, the common type of epilepsy, acromegaly and blindness.

Now, I personally can attest to the migraine headaches, I experienced my first one when I was 8 years old. it lasted an entire week.  I couldn’t open my eyes, hold food down, could not stand an ounce of noise, had no urge to even try to speak, and I caught on rather quickly that crying made the pain worse so, they needed to be a no tears episodes.  My diet as a child was horrible, sweets were never restricted growing up, neither was soda. It took me years to connect the dots that anything with MSG would trigger a headache from hell, so Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, Funyon’s, lunchmeats, Chinese food, commercial salad dressings, lots of fast foods like White Caste hamburgers, these foods kept me bed ridden quite a bit growing up.  Then when Aspertame came on the scene, we had a whole new set of problems, it not only caused migraines for me, but caused sever neurological problems for me as well.

When the body is backed up with all these toxins the truth be told the headache/migraine is really an alcoholic type of headache.  I’m not talking about 8 year olds tipping their parents top shelf brandy when no one is looking, this is alcohol that ends up being manufactured in the patient’s own stomach.  When the sugars ferment and starches that are on overload in someone’s diet.

LETS TALK ABOUT THOSE ENDOCRINE GLANDS:

So what happens when the thyroid gland which controls ALL functions of the body’s three layers of skin?  We have the outer skin which we see and touch, the inner skin which is the mucous membrane, and the middle skin which is the serous membrane, which lines the pleural, pericardial, peritoneal and cranial cavities and our joints.

There is a normal function of our outer skin which is to exhale gases, sweat out water and certain toxic salt substances and  it oils itself and its hair with special oil glands.  When this elimination is done forcefully, there are names of the dastardly effects that keep many Dermatologists busy: Eczema, ichthyosis and psoriasis are some of the common ones.  So is Acne.

The next layer called mucous membranes, when the thyroid is under duress it may force toxins out through the mucous cells.  So when only the superficial cells of this inner skin are involved the secretion is just watery, doctors call it catarrh.  Yet as the deeper layers are affected, the discharge becomes muco-purulent (mucus and pus), sounds fabulous right?  Most know these as sinusitis, bronchitis, gastritis, enteritis, appendicitis, tonsillitis, mastitis, cervicitis, pyelitis,  notice they all end in “itis”…this means inflammation.

Adrenal

When we move on to the adrenal glands, these are what supplies us with on the spot energy when they sense we are in danger. Like when you walk up on a big spider and before you realize it you have screamed, done a weeks worth of aerobics in 2 seconds and your heart feels like its pumping outta your chest and you are probably sweating, (that’s what fight or flight might look like.)  When they secrete in this type of situation, our body goes into what is called “fight or flight” mode. Our body shuts down any other function that is not 100% needed so it can pulse all necessary energy into safety mode.

There is  necessary oxidation that is the fire of life, that must take place in our bodies.  The adrenal secretion is the agent that makes oxidation happen.  This secretion is so important that our body has other storage spots like the brain, the great nerve ganglia; the posterior pituitary, the sex glands and scattered areas throughout the kidneys.

The filtration process of our kidneys depends upon oxidation. So, consequently under stress, the kidney can be forced by the adrenals into elimination even to the point of destroying itself and elevating the blood pressure until a heart attack or other circulatory damage results.  We are hearing of more and more peeps on kidney dialysis these days, makes one wonder if this is just a coincidence or a evolutionary transit?

One of the other key functions of our adrenals is to regulate the strength of muscle tone.  So our skeletal muscles even our bowel muscle, I would stretch to say since all our organs are of a muscular design, everything is affected.  But lets roll back to the bowel muscle for a minute, we have 5 feet of bowel, with good well toned bowel muscle, our bowel function is perfect, effortless and regular.  Adrenal types, that is, individuals who are dominated by their adrenal glands, seldom suffer from constipation as long as the chemistry of the liver remains normal.  When an adrenal type becomes toxic from indigestion, they may notice that things become uncontrollable in the south pole region.  They usually experience weakened kidney issues or kidney disease, and have a weight on/weight off issue, they can lose weight but find they pack on the pounds too and this goes back and forth through out the years if they don’t address the issue.

DISEASE:

In my quest over the years, I have ran across a plethora of conflicting ideas on what actually causes disease.  There are those that take the stance that food has little to do with preparing the inner growing field for disease.  They stand on their beliefs that the body can utilize anything to good account with the exception of pure poisons.  So when it comes to the theories of toxemia, intestinal putrefaction, auto intoxication these are labeled as “faddist” and they refuse to take these seriously.  Dr. Logan Clendening in “The Human Body, stated: “what you want to eat will be good for you.  “what one relishes, nourishes “, “The appetite is a wonderfully sensitive instrument, a safe compass.  It keeps most of us exactly where we ought to be in weight and strength.”  I read that and thought WOW, can’t speak for how things looked back in 1927 when he wrote that book, but he died at the age of 61.

But if you just merely look around when your in public, and all the different products being sold as weight-loss products, one doesn’t need a scientific study to prove that our society is more “over” weight, than simmering at an “exactly where we ought to be weight & strength ” as Dr. Logan Clendening  so eloquently stated.

I found it interesting that in 1962, In his very first published book, Murray Bookchin, writing under the pseudonym “Lewis Herber”, warns of the dangers of pesticide use, and espouses an ecological and environmentalist worldview.
Our Synthetic Environment was one of the first books of the modern period in which an author espoused an ecological and environmentalist worldview. It predates Silent Spring (1962) by Rachel Carson, a more widely known book on the same topic widely credited as starting the environmental movement. (* http://www.ecology.iww.org)

Murray Bookchin wrote: “we are exchanging health for mere survival.  We have begun to measure man’s biological achievements, not in terms of his ability to lead a vigorous, physically untroubled life, but in terms of his ability to preserve his mere existence in an increasingly distorted environment.  Today, survival often entails ill health and rapid physical degeneration.  We are prepared to accept the fact that a relatively young individual will suffer from frequent headaches and digestive disturbance, continual nervous tension, insomnia, a persistent “cigarette cough.” a mouthful of decaying teeth, and respiratory ailments every winter.  We expect his physique to acquire the rotundity of a barrel shortly after the onset of middle age; we find nothing extraordinary in the fact that he is incapable of running more than a few yards without suffering loss of breath or walking a few miles without suffering exhaustion.”

That was back in 1962, not sure that much has appeared to change with his observation.  Harvard University published in 1957, the Findings of the United States Commission on Chronic Illness: “In 1950 an estimated 28 million Americans were suffering from chronic disease.  That number has NOT decreased despite all the “medical breakthroughs”, according to http://www.CDC.gov ; “Nov 14, 2016 – Chronic diseases are responsible for 7 of 10 deaths each year, and treating people with chronic diseases accounts for 86% of our nation’s health care costs.”  I can’t speak for anyone reading this post, but to me that is a staggering percentage.  We NEED a proverbial light bulb to blaze, not just light up.

I’m going to post more and move on to how our body moves through various “lines of defense” to do battle on our behalf.

It is my hope that I can light a flame of not only concern, but of determination in the hearts and minds of folks to start treating their bodies like the precious vessel that they are, your body is your most prized possession, treat it to the best of the best.

Natural Therapy for Cancer

 

Fruits and Vegetables

Anyone who has ever had cancer, or had a loved one with cancer, knows the feelings of fear, anxiety, worry and often hopelessness that this very serious illness can bring.  These emotions are very understandable it’s a serious illness.  So, its little wonder that cancer usually causes intense emotional distress in everyone involved.

Of course, the subject of cancer is far too involved to adequately address in a mere blog post.  However, I can acquaint you with some important information about cancer from a natural healing perspective and give you some ideas about options you may not be familiar with.  However, I strongly encourage you to seek professional help when dealing with cancer.  You need competent health care professionals helping you with your program and monitoring your progress, but you should also do some study on your own and learn about things you can do for yourself.

WHAT EXACTLY IS CANCER?

Cancer is a disease involving cells that have undergone a genetic mutation so they are no longer responsive to messages from the body that regulate cell metabolism and growth.  These mutations are believed to be the result of free radical damage turn cancerous.  Normal cells have an aerobic metabolism, which means they produce energy by means of oxygen and oxidation.  Anaerobic cells produce energy without oxygen via a process of fermentation.

This is important to know because if the body is highly oxygenated, the environment for cancer does not exist.  In fact, in 1931 Dr. Otto Warburg won a Nobel Prize for proving that whenever any cell is denied 60% of its oxygen requirements, it can become cancerous.  So, conditions that deprive cells of oxygen (like chronic inflammation, buildup of toxins or problems with red blood cells or circulation) increase the risk of cancer.  An overly acidic environment in the body is also a breeding ground for cancer.

Another important thing you should know is that cancer cells are forming in the body on a regular basis.  Very likely, you have a few inside you right now.  Don’t worry, the immune system normally recognizes these deviant cells and destroys them.

Therefor two factors must exist for you to develop cancer.  First, your body has to have a toxic, low oxygen environment that encourages the development of anaerobic cancer cells, and second, your immune system must be weakened so that it is not able to recognize and destroy these cells.

So, while killing cancer cells (the goal of conventional cancer therapy) is an important part of treating cancer, it does not fix the underlying problems that created the cancer in the first place.  This is the weakness of the standard medical approach to cancer.  An effective protocol for cancer should do more than just destroy cancer cells, it should try to restore a normal, healthy environment in the body and rebuild the immune system.

So, even if one choose to use orthodox cancer therapies to destroy the cancer cells, they would be wise to consider doing natural therapy to restore the body’s state of health and prevent the cancer from wanting to re-occur.

PRINCIPLE #1: INCREASE OXYGEN LEVELS

Cancer cells are anaerobic, which means they live and thrive in a low oxygen environment.  They are able to get their energy by metabolizing nutrients, notable sugars and carbohydrates without oxygen, in a fermentative process.  Cancer cells cannot survive in a high oxygen environment, so keeping the body well oxygenated inhibits cancer.  Do this by getting plenty of fresh air and exercise, breathe deeply, if you smoke, QUIT.

There are several supplements that can enhance oxygenation in the body.  For starters, CHINESE LUNG SUPPORT:  helps with oxygen delivery and uptake and is very useful for anyone with respiratory weakness.  Another Chinese remedy that strengthens the lungs and enhances oxygen transport is CORDYCEPS.  Cordyceps also helps the immune system.

LIQUID CHLOROPHYLL: is another great way to enhance oxygen transport.  It prevents clumping of red blood cells and helps them carry more oxygen to the tissues.  Research has shown that it can reduce the risk of cancer.

PRINCIPLE #2: BALANCE pH

In order to have optimal health, the body must maintain a proper internal pH.  Cancer cells prefer an acid pH environment.  Their fermentative metabolism also releases large amounts of lactic acid that inhibit transportation o oxygen to neighboring cells.  This spreads the environment for cancer.  A buildup of acid waste also inhibits toxins from being released by the cells.

The best way to counteract this acidic environment is to eat large quantities of fresh, preferable organic, fruits and veggies every day.  This is well-recognized as one of the best ways of decreasing your risk of cancer, but unfortunately, its benefit in helping folks recover from cancer is often ignored.  Fresh fruits and veggies not only help alkalize the body, they also strengthen immunity, aid detoxification and provide much-needed antioxidants.

Besides eating fresh fruits and veggies, there are several other supplements that can help alkalize the body.  The first is Ultimate Green Zone:  this is a whole food supplement that alkalizes the environment, aids in detoxification and builds the immune system to help it recognize and destroy cancer cells.

Digestive enzymes are a MUST to help balance pH.  my favorite choice for folks with cancer is Proactazyme plus and PDA Combo, these are great choices with balancing pH and assisting with proper digestion.  You can’t nourish a sick body if the food processor, a.k.a. digestive system can’t process the nutrients.  A lack of hydrochloric acid leads to excess lactic acid in the body, which sets the stage for cancer to thrive.  These are taken with meals to help the body metabolize food properly so as to avoid a buildup of acid waste and toxins.  They are also taken between meals to help rid the body of excess proteins that may be causing acid in the blood.

 

PRINCIPLE #3: STRENGTHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

The body normally and regularly produces cancer cells due to free radical damage, environmental factors or other causes.  A healthy immune system recognizes and destroys these defective cells.  When the immune system is unable to recognize these deviant cells or is too weak to destroy them, the disease we call cancer takes root.

There are many reasons why the immune system becomes weakened; poor nutritional intake is a major factor for many.  The loss or destruction of friendly bacteria in the intestinal tract is another.  Excessive sugar consumption supplies cancer cells with the energy they need to proliferate fast, (refined sugar is like fertilizer for cancer cells,) while contributing to chronic inflammation that distresses the immune system.

Improving nutritional intake, especially eating those 7-9 servings of fruits and veggies daily, will help the immune system, as will eliminating chemically laden processed foods.  Reducing intake of sugar, white flour and other simple carbohydrates will also prove helpful.

TRIGGER IMMUNE: helps to rebuild a weakened immune system, enhance vital energy and immune function and increase white blood cell production and platelet count.  It is very helpful in recovering from chemotherapy and can also be taken during chemotherapy to strengthen the system to resist toxic affects from chemotherapy.

 

IMMUNE STIMULATOR:  is another supplement that can boost the immune system to fight cancer.  It not only enhances natural killer cells (lymphocytes), which kill cancer cells, it also increases T-cell production and antibody production.  An important benefit of Immune simulator is its ability to enhance cellular communication, which helps the immune system identify and target calls it needs to destroy.

UNA DE GATO COMBINATION: is another herbal formula that strengthens a weakened immune system.  The principle ingredient, Una de Gato, has been used in South American for cancer treatment and contains compounds that inhibit tumor growth in animals.

 

PRINCIPLE #4: DETOXIFY

The human body is bombarded with toxins, heavy metals, chlorine and thousands of chemicals that we breathe in, consume in our diet or absorb through our skin.  These all cause free radicals in the body and contribute to the environment of cancer.

Avoiding these toxins is part of both cancer prevention and holistic cancer therapy.  In particular, avoid or eliminate refined and processed foods (especially foods raised with pesticides, antibiotics or steroids), toxic cleaning products (such as laundry detergents, skin care items, fluoride toothpaste, etc.) and chlorinated and fluoridated water. Research the ingredients that are in cleaning and health/beauty products before you purchase, we all carry mini computers today called “smart phones” which can give you information lickety split.  Also, avoid microwaved or irradiated food and protect yourself from electrical equipment (electromagnetic pollution may be a major causal factor in cancer).

It is also helpful to assist the body in detoxifying from these substances using any of the following supplements:

For starters: E-TEA or also referred to as Essiac Tea is a famous anticancer formula that helps the body eliminate toxins.  It improves lymphatic drainage and stimulates the immune system.

ALL CELL DETOX:  is another good, general cleansing formula that is based on a Native American medicine man’s cancer remedy.  It reduces inflammation, supports the liver and digestive system and helps neutralize acid.

BLOOD BUILD:  is a supplement I think everyone should use cancer or not at least 3 times a year.  it nourishes the blood and helps increase its volume.  It is an excellent formula for helping the body rebuild after chemotherapy.

 

PRINCIPLE #5: USE ANTIOXIDANTS

Our need for oxygen exceed the demand for any nutrient, even water, because we need oxygen for normal energy production in the cell.  You can go 3 weeks with zero food, and 3 days even without water, but you cannot go 3 minutes without oxygen.  Oxygen can also produce free radicals that can damage normal cells and cause cancer. Antioxidant nutrients protect the body from this free radical damage, thereby reducing cancer risk.  Antioxidants can also be used in a treatment program for cancer, because they help protect the body from harmful side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

 

Some antioxidants to consider would include:  HIGH POTENCY GRAPINE:  which is an extract of grape seed that helps reduce inflammation and prevent cell damage, and GREEN TEA EXTRACT: which contains polyphenols called catechins, powerful antioxidants that protect cells from cancer and kill cancer cells.  One of these catechins is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which was shown in several studies to kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

One of my all time favorites is THAI-GO: its a liquid which many cancer patients will assimilate liquids easier, but this contains xanthones, a powerful antioxidant that has been shown in numerous studies to inhibit cancer cells and aid in tumor reduction.  These compounds cause apoptosis (or preprogrammed cell death) in cancer cells.  Xanthones exert cytotoxic (cancer cell killing) effects against human hepatocellular carcinoma cells, and have been shown to inhibit the growth of human leukemia HL-60 cells.  Xanthones have also been shown to be effective against human breast cancer SKBR3 cells.

IF-RELIEF: also contains xanthones and can be helpful for reducing chronic inflammation and pain.

PRINCIPLE #6: KILL CANCER CELLS

For those diagnosed with cancer, it is important to kill off the cancerous cells.  The problem is that chemotherapy and radiation also cause damage to healthy cells.  Killing cancer cells also produces toxins that the body MUST eliminate.

There are some natural compounds that can help kill cancer cells, too.  PAW PAW CELL REG: is a standardized extract of acetogenins from the American Paw paw tree.  These compounds have been shown in scientific research to cause apoptosis (preprogrammed cell death) in cancer cells by inhibiting their energy production.

Paw Paw Cell Reg is not appropriate for all cancers and should be used as a part of a comprehensive cancer program.  However, even if one chooses to use chemotherapy drugs.  Paw Paw may still be beneficial.  It has also been shown to reduce chemotherapy drug resistance.  By itself, paw pas doesn’t have the side effects of hair loss, weight loss, extreme nausea and compromised immunity.  It may cause nausea in larger doses however.

Paw paw is NOT recommended as a supplement for preventing cancer.  It is only appropriate when a person HAS cancer.  Paw paw is also ineffective against leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers that do not involve tumors.

Another supplement that can help the body destroy cancer cells, is HIGH POTENCY PROTEASE,  it breaks down the protein coat on cancer cells and also helps prevent cancer cells that are breaking down from creating a toxic load on nearby healthy cells.  It is taken BETWEEN meals for this purpose, and taken WITH meals to enhance digestion.

PRINCIPLE #7: INCREASE JOY AND PLEASURES

One German study shows a commonality that all cancer patients experienced a trauma and an unresolved psychological issue shortly before the cancer developed.  Stress is a big component of cancer because psychological stress creates physical stress that dramatically reduces immune function.

Reducing stress should be a stress-less task.  That’s why the goal here is not to reduce stress , but rather to deliberately seek out joy and pleasure.  A pleasurable, happy experience has a more positive effect on the immune system and healing than the stressful effects of an experience.

So, seek out pleasurable experiences. Find things that make you laugh.  Spend time with family, friends or pets.  Take a walk in the fresh air and sunshine.  Surround yourself with pleasing colors, smells, sounds.  Listen to favorite music; get up and dance.  Listen to calming, meditative music.  Take a hot bath in Epsom salts and lavender oil.  Treat yourself to a  full body massage, take a mini vacation or go to a spa for the day.

 

You can also reduce stress by taking some herbal support like NUTRI-CALM: which replenishes  the nervous system and adrenals.  ADRENAL SUPPORT : will help build stamina and promote healing as well as giving the body more ability to cope with stress.  Another option is CHINESE STRESS RELIEF:  which can assist the body’s ability to relax, counteracting stress.

Cancer is a difficult multi-facet disease to work with, but many folks have successfully recovered from cancer using both natural and conventional therapies or a combination of the two.  Seek out professional assistance in designing the holistic program that is a proper fit for you.  Remember, there is hope!

Now. I’m talking about either eating raw, chopped in salads or “juiced”. when asparagus is cooked ( many cook it until it’s limp and nasty) you are losing the value of the alkaloid as the hydrogen and oxygen are dissipated and the natural salts formed by the combination of this alkaloid are virtually lost or their value destroyed.
By using as a juice in conjunction with carrots, it helps break up oxalic acid crystals in the kidneys and thru the muscular system. it is good for rheumatism, neuritis. Rheumatism results from the end product of digestion of meat and meat products with generate excessive amounts of urea (according to Dr. Norman Walker)
Continuous consumption of meat proteins can tax the workings of the kidneys and eliminative organs, straining them to the point where progressively smaller amounts of uric acid is eliminated and a greater amount is then absorbed by the muscles. The end result is painful and referred to as rheumatism.
This is also one of the underlying causes for prostate gland issues, in which case this juice combination, in addition to the carrot, beet and cucumber juice has been quite helpful.


Where did my journey begin?

I’ve had multiple clients ask me over the years why did I choose to embark into the field of Naturopathic Medicine.  My answer has always been I didn’t choose it, IT chose ME.

 

I was recently asked the same question and I felt maybe it was time to put my journey into words.  I think that some folks naturally assume than when one is in this type of a field of practice that they don’t struggle with the same mental or physical issues that folks who seek my services out do, but I have to burst the bubble with that assumption…. WE too are humans on this spinning ball we call earth, and therefore are subjected to the same hurdles. There is zero doubt in my mind and heart that God chose my path for me, and my conditioning began for me right from the stages of infancy.

 

Back in 1965 , it was quite common for laboring mothers to be placed in what was referred to as a twilight sleep.  The drugs used to initiate this twilight sleep were comprised of a chemical cocktail of “Morphine & Scopolamine”.  The Morphine was to reduce the pain in labor, and the scopolamine was to create amnesia so the experience wasn’t remembered.  The problem is that this cocktail greatly suppressed the Central Nervous system of both mother and baby.  This meant the baby would need to be delivered with the assistance of forceps, (which I was), and  baby upon birth, to have a very suppressed Central Nervous System which could cause breathing issues and a host of other neurological malfunctions, mine began in the digestive tract.

 

The other common thing to offer the mother after birth was medication to dry up her milk, my mother was told by the medical staff that her emotional state was too nervous to breast feed me, and would make for a very nervous baby, so they recommended she resort to feeding me formula vs. breast milk.  Hence, my digestive issues began from the starting gate. The colostrum in breast milk works as the perfect stimulant to allow the baby to pass out the meconium, which is a black tar like coating inside the infants colon. I was constipated before I even left the hospital with my parents.  As an infant I was diagnosed as having colic, and infant constipation.  My parents rode the rollercoaster of trying to find which formula would work best for me. I was given colic prescriptions and prescription laxatives as an infant, adding insult to injury.

As a child I always remembered, (what should be a simple task) of having a bowel movement was one of great agony and a dreaded body function that I sought to avoid at all cost.  Was I the only child, that in order to use the bathroom had to sit on the throne rocking back and forth with a cold rag on her forehead, and the wastebasket between my legs (because most bowel movements meant throwing up), cold sweats and feeling like I was going to pass out, which some times actually happened?  I remember asking my mom, what is wrong with my “poop shoot”, twas, what I called it…..

When I reached the age of 8 yrs. old, I experienced my 1st migraine headache, albeit it took the medical field upwards of a year to realize that was what I was experiencing.  In the meantime, I was put thru E.E.G’s to see if the headaches were some form of a seizure, or possibly a brain tumor, once those were ruled out, they assumed I must need glasses, which they gave me yet I couldn’t SEE thru them. They mysteriously keep getting lost! Not sure what was up with that?

So after spending much time at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, it took a Pediatric Intern to confront my parents with the statement that he felt I was having migraine headaches.  So, they prescribed a medication… I do NOT remember what it was, but what I do remember was when I took it, it was like having a total out of body experience, and I was expected to still sit at my desk at school and be a kid at recess, when I couldn’t even manage to keep my feet underneath me when I was on it. Mom took me off of that when the school nurse gave me my dose, and next period was recess and I literally walked off a 3 + food concrete pad on the playground and had a goose egg on my forehead the size of a grapefruit coupled with a concussion.  Problem with it was, I couldn’t even “LIE” about having the headache when they would occur, because it was uncontrollable vomiting and the pain was so excruciating that all I could do was lay down and moan, crying made it worse so I learned really quickly not to add insult to injury.

 

At the age of 10, I experienced my 1st go round with a “blocked bowel”, I hadn’t had a bowel movement in at least 2 weeks and I became septic.  My fever shot up, and my body was trembling uncontrollably, coupled with a migraine. Folks, during these young ages I spent a LOT of time in the E.R. and doctors offices.  I also struggled with lots of upper respiratory issues, it got to when I felt the urge to cough or sneeze, I’d hurry up and leave the room so mom couldn’t hear, because instantly she would give my cold to “Contact, or Dristan”, (remember those commercials way back when?  I hated taking those because they made me feel jumpy inside, and I quickly learned after taking those, then I’d end up with a UTI, (Urinary tract infection) because it would dry EVERYTHING up!

 

So now being in the E.R. and mom being told I had a severely blocked bowel, the only course of action would be to remove my colon and have a colostomy bag. I remember my mom crying, but conceding, the doctor left the room to put the surgery team together.  God being supreme and in control, had placed an E.R. nurse in my room during the doctors conversation with my mom, (I was pumped up on feel good juice of some sort), but I do remember the nurse telling my mom, she could lose her job for what she was about to suggest and that they didn’t have much time, but she didn’t want to see this baby (meaning me), lose her colon, did she have my mom’s permission to try to save it before surgery.  My mom didn’t even ask “what” she wanted to do, she just agreed.  What she gave me was a high enema, I remember them trying to muffle my screams, and massaging my belly, and using tools to help the stool exit, and demanding that I PUSH with everything I had…. Yes I gave birth…. birth to the petrified stool, and gave birth to my 1st go round with hemorrhoids, what a way to welcome the age of being “10”…..I had another go round with a blocked bowel when I was 17 yrs. old.  But to this day, thanks be to God, this lady still possesses her proper set of pipes given to her at birth!

 

Now after the stool birthing process at the age of 10, I distinctly remember dreaming of an evening, and it was so prominent of a dream that I actually wrote it down in my little girlie diary at the time, which I had forgotten about, until my mother who for whatever reason saved the diary (not sure if she save it with intention or it just got shoved in a box of misc. stuff, but shortly before she died in 2005, she gave it to me, of which I didn’t end up reading until 2 yrs. after she passed).  But I DO remember that dream set a ball in motion for me that put me at odds with both my parents from that point forward.  My dream told me to pay attention to my foods!  God’s honest truth… the exact words in my diary ” a voice in my dream told me to pay attention to my foods, I don’t know why, maybe doing this will help me”. I don’t think I completely understood, but things began to make sense after that.  I began to realize that after I ate certain foods, I would get a migraine, that was the 1st place I began to connect the dots.

Remember those cookies that looked like windmills?  I’d get a horrible headache after eating those, or when dad would bring home Arby’s roast beef sandwiches for lunch, I’d be sicker than a dog after eating those.  Or doubled up on the floor after drinking a glass of milk.  My mom loved Chinese food, so we’d frequent a local Chinese restaurant, and Migraine from hell would occur after eating there.  Slim Jim’s same thing, Doritos, Funyuns,  White Castle hamburgers, my list kept getting bigger.  Of course back then I didn’t know that MSG. was the culprit, or being lactose intolerant.  I just knew after I’d eat certain foods, I didn’t “FEEL” good.  Now being raised by a father who insisted you eat whatever was placed in front of you, becoming defiant and refusing to eat certain things, well that boat didn’t float too terribly well.   Same with liver and onions, I couldn’t digest it not to mention couldn’t stand the taste… but there was a huge turning point for me in 6th grade when I remember standing up, (being the last Mohican at the dinner table), and Liver -n- onion was the main dish, coupled with left over Chinese and a big glass of milk.  I remember staring at that and thinking “you’ve got to be kidding me”…..

 

I stood my ground, and actually I was getting quite upset, my father was sitting at the table with me as mom was doing the dishes, and I got this lecture, Jodi Ann, I don’t care if that food tastes like it just came out of the freezer, you are going to eat it, there are people starving who would give their right arm to have what is sitting in front of you… Now being the bright 11 yr. old that I credited myself to be, I got up from the table and walked over to the “junk drawer in the kitchen, you know the one every household has”, and took out an envelope and remember walking back to the table, I placed what food I could in that envelope licked it shut and set it down in front of my father and made the statement, “Daddy, I am feeling like a giving person right now so you can mail this to them, and then they can save their right arm, cuz I’m NOT eating any of it.”  As any of you parents that may be reading this, that brave stand didn’t fare super well for this brilliant 11 yr. old Joan of Ark, as a matter of fact I remember being quite sore for a day or too.  However, I remember my parent’s arguing, and my dad saying if she isn’t going to eat what we eat, she need not be at the dinner table.  Inside, I was doing my happy dance…

So here is where I impose my years of WISDOM on all reading parents….. LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN…. when I get clients who bring their kiddo’s for a consult, and are disgusted because they say their kids are being picky eaters, they are quickly corrected by ME, children are not BORN to be picky eaters, but they cannot always convey in conversation that when they eat something, they don’t feel right…I will tell you this though, Kids are way more in tune with listening to their bodies than adults.  Let me also pose a question to all parents who take the stance that your children will eat what is placed in front of them… when you go to a restaurant, do you purposely order something off the menu because you know its GOOD for you, or do you order something that you actually LIKE?  You have an element of choice, why shouldn’t they? Now I’m not saying you cave in and allow them to have crap food in place of something healthy.  What I am saying is you need to sometimes allow them the freedom to choose in the different food categories.  So if they don’t like a particular veggie, give them other veggie choices, and same with other food groups.  Their taste will change and improve as they grow older.

As I stop and sift through looking back over the years, I lost a lot of play time, laying in a bed with a bucket and rag on my head.  I missed out on spending the night at friends houses, (until my later teens), because I never knew when I was gonna have to use the bathroom, and it always meant I’d have to lay down for awhile afterwards. Not to mention I had no control over what foods would be served at friends houses, and didn’t want to bring on a headache.  It was easier to just forego and stay home.

When I got married and became pregnant with my 1st child, I ended up with toxemia, and gestational Diabetes, after I gave birth to her via C-section.  I made a solemn vow, the buck stops HERE.  There has to be a better way forward, and there was no way my children were going to experience any of what I went thru.  I began to scour thru the library and began reading everything and anything I could get my hands on that pertained to nutrition, I began to collect “OLD” cookbooks (pre-circa processed foods).  Everything I could was made from scratch and if I couldn’t make it from scratch, we didn’t eat it.  Well, I should say that didn’t roll super well with the hubs, so some concessions were made and his favorite junk foods were hidden, or he ate them at work. (we called it compromise). Not that our children never experienced any processed/junk foods, yes they did, however the moderation they received or were allowed to eat was greatly controlled especially when they were smaller.

 

One of the 1st life changing material that I came across was the book written by Dr. Henry Bieler, M.D. called Food is your Best Medicine, and the other was by Dr.Norman Walker’s book called Colon Health, those two books changed my direction in profound ways.  So to end where I began with this post, I didn’t pick my field of practice, IT picked me!  God had a direction, he had a plan for my future, I had to walk in the trenches for awhile, it developed within me a particular “bed-side manner”, and truth be told as with Paul and his “thorn in the flesh”, I have to still watch because I still succumb to migraines, and bowel malfunction when I drift off course.  So I do not place myself on any particular pedestal of perfection.  I believe I probably struggle less than most, but I do have my moments of weakness, like every other breathing mammal on the planet. Of which I usually pay dearly for when I cave into temptation.

 

Is there a better way to live?  ABSOLUTELY… and it begins with realizing “Food is your best medicine”,,,, and restoring intestinal integrity, that many are lacking including our children.

Why should you consider doing a QFA Analysis?

I wanted to address and point out  why  as a Practitioner, I like to utilize a QFA Analysis with my clients, it is NOT medical diagnosis, but we look for the subtle imbalances that begin the trickle effect within our body that can later lead to being sick.

It makes good preventative sense and guess what…. your body fluids don’t lie…. Dr. Claude Bernard’s theory claimed that illness and disease are caused primarily by imbalances in the body’s interstitial fluid environment. This theory later developed into the science known as Biological Terrain. A healthy cell living in an unhealthy environment will fail to thrive.   

 

   A certain amount of stress is necessary for life. Chronic stress can create disturbances within the cellular environment. The Biological Terrain may reflect this state of imbalance. In today’s stress-filled world, however, excessive levels of stress are creating excessive work for the body’s cells and its Biological Terrain. Chronic stresses, day after day can, in fact, prove to be very harmful to the body. Juggling work, home and family responsibilities, worries over insurance and mortgage payments, sitting for hours in rush-hour traffic, too much or not enough exercise, too little sleep and poor diets are making it more and more challenging for the body and its cells to maintain homeostasis.

 

In addition, continued exposure to poisons and toxins in the air, water and environment are creating additional internal biochemical stress. As a result, deficiencies and excesses are being created that are severely affecting the integrity of the Biological Terrain within the body. This, in turn, may be contributing to the development of degenerative ailments and premature aging.

 

A compromised terrain is less equipped to support the health of the trillions of cells that rely upon it for nourishment and support. The body can store toxins and chemical insults/overloads. Like an onion, these toxins and insults can be peeled away to reveal underlying patterns and imbalances. The monitoring of the pH, redox and resistivity of the biological fluids may reveal the effects that these factors are having upon the underlying chemistry of the cells.

A QFA 300 does not diagnose illness or disease. It is not a treatment device. This computerized device assesses, urine and saliva. It was designed to monitor subtle and specific parameters of the Biological Terrain environment.

Quantitative Fluid Analysis, involves the monitoring of your saliva and urine for pH, redox and resistivity. These parameters may provide valuable information about your body’s cells and the interstitial environment called the Biological Terrain that nourishes those cells.

Following a 12-hour fast, first morning urine and saliva specimens are obtained. The QFA 300™ device then assesses these fluids. Results are obtained within minutes, offering you valuable information. This data may increase your understanding of your specific biochemical requirements. This information then us helps to choose a diet and nutritional program that best suits your particular needs. Fast for 10-12 hours prior to your QFA™. Complete your dinner the evening prior to the QFA™ no later than 8:00-9:00 PM. Avoid scheduling your QFA within 24 hours of airplane travel. Women: Also avoid scheduling your QFA™ during your menstrual period. A QFA™ performed during this period would show elevated pH results.

After dinner, brush your teeth and refrain from eating or drinking anything until after your QFA. This includes chewing gum, throat lozenges and candy. Take any prescribed medications as directed with only a small amount of water. Discontinue supplements 48 hours prior to your QFA™. Refrain from using any toothpaste, mouthwashes or mouth rinses both at bedtime and the morning of your QFA. Also avoid the use of any lipstick or makeup around your mouth and lips. Such substances can change the chemistry of the mouth and your saliva Your QFA analysis measures the values of pH, redox and resistivity.

 

These measurements may offer valuable information about the electrons, minerals, hydration and nutrients in your Biological Terrain environment. Because your biochemistry is unique, these values may help your clinician design the nutritional program that is best suited for your particular needs.

A QFA does not diagnose an illness or disease; it monitors specific parameters of your Biological Terrain.

  • Your pH measurement will indicate the acidity or alkalinity of your biological fluids. Specific pH levels are necessary for optimum digestion and absorption of foods, activation of enzymes and binding of hormones with their receptor sites.
  • Your redox measurement may provide data regarding the level of electrons in your fluids. Electrons are essential for life. Long-term exposure to such factors as chronic stress, poor diets, environmental toxins, chemicals and damaging organisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi may interfere with the cells’ abilities to produce the substances needed for electron and ATP production. This means ENERGY, yet many pull themselves thru their day, their energy levels are low, they deal with fatigue everyday or fake their system thru the process by incorporating energy drinks, caffeine, that only covers the symptoms it doesn’t address the real cause.
  • Your resistivity results involve the measurement of minerals in your fluids. Minerals are needed for many critical actions and reactions in the body, as well as for building and maintaining bone and muscle tissue. When fluids become congested with too many minerals, stagnation and congestion may occur which may limit the cells’ abilities to function optimally. Too few minerals in the fluids may limit the body’s ability to maintain its bone and muscle function. Many people have actually gotten used to muscle cramps, joint pains and accept it is a normal process of everyday function, or I hear this a lot… (well I’m not a spring chicken anymore)…So many are totally mineral depleted, or what I refer to as “lack of available minerals”, doesn’t mean the minerals are there it means there are reasons your body is choosing NOT to metabolize them.
